New Kid on the Block is a Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! episode from season two.

Characters Present[]

Summary[]

When a new student named Murphy joins the class, Wubbzy has trouble coping with him. Wubbzy faces the music and tries to make do with him to win the grand prize on Captain Wonderpants Day.

Recap[]

The episode starts with the Captain Wonderpants theme song. After the song, the announcer declares that Captain Wonderpants is going to save Wuzzleburg from Dr. Crunchauser and reminds viewers to eat Wonder Wheat Toasties, the official cereal of Captain Wonderpants. Wubbzy loves Captain Wonderpants, and so do all his friends. At school, the students have two special events occurring, with Murphy, the new student, joining, and the teacher hosting Captain Wonderpants Day. When a student is the first to complete something in class, the student wins Captain Wonderpants prizes. Throughout the day, Wubbzy tries to win the prizes but fails each time mostly due to accidents, with Murphy always winning. Wubbzy projects his feelings of injustice onto Murphy, claiming he doesn't like him, though Daizy keeps telling him to give him a chance.

Wubbzy even blames Murphy when his Captain Wonderpants boomerang gets stuck in a tree, even though he was the one who threw it. He is disappointed he has nothing for show and tell, but thanks to Murphy's size, he retrieves Wubbzy's boomerang and gives it back to him. Wubbzy apologizes for being hard on him. Wubbzy wins show and tell and wins a day with Captain Wonderpants himself.

Trivia[]

  • Moral: Get to know someone better before you judge how to feel about them.
  • The episode's title is a spoof on the boy band New Kids on the Block, as well as the phrase itself.
  • This is one of three episodes where Widget and Walden are absent; the other episodes they do not appear in "Who's That Girl?" and "What a Card".
  • By the material taught, it is assumed that the students might be in kindergarten or first grade.
  • Wubbzy stirred his glitter fast instead of slow, but it served no difference.
  • This is the first (and only) episode to start with an iris opening instead of a fade in while usually some episodes end with the iris closing.
  • This is the first of two episodes where Daizy wears an outfit that is not pink, the second being Hoop Dreamz. Her school kickety-kick ball uniform is blue and white.

Goofs[]

  • Miss Appletree has Murphy sit in the desk right in front of Wubbzy, causing him to have trouble seeing the board and what she is teaching. She could have noticed Wubbzy was not in the room and asked where he was, or he could have spoken out loud that he was behind Murphy and could not see. He also could have told the student sitting next to him that he could not see and ask Miss Appletree to have him and Murphy move their desks around so that Wubbzy could see the board and her.
  • Miss Appletree let Murphy's toy fly around (in a science lab of all places), which caused Wubbzy to spill his green glitter goo all over himself. Miss Appletree also should've noticed he was the first one to correctly make the goo (and not Murphy), and that Wubbzy wasn't trying to wear the goo.
  • Murphy technically didn’t cause Wubbzy to lose at kickety-kickball. Daizy was too distracted looking at the flowers. As a result, ball went into the net. If she was paying attention, she could’ve stopped Murphy from scoring, so it was Daizy's fault.
