Dash for Dolly is a Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! episode from season one.

Characters Present[]

Summary[]

Wubbzy and Walden try to get Widget a Hammering Holly-Dolly for her birthday.

Recap[]

It's Widget's birthday, and Huggy, Buggy, and Earl are making presents for her for the birthday party at Wubbzy's house. Huggy made a macaroni screwdriver, Buggy painted a picture of Widget's truck, and Earl made the frame for it. Wubbzy isn't quite sure what to give Widget, however.

Walden and Wubbzy meet Widget at the party store, and as walk with bags of decorations, Widget runs over to the toy store in excitement as she sees a Hammering Holly Dolly in the window, a doll that wears an inventor-styled costume and even has a hammer like Widget. She wants one, giving Wubbzy an idea what to finally give her. When Widget goes off to finish some work before the party, Wubbzy remembers he doesn't have enough money for the doll, but gets an idea to make a homemade Hammering Holly Dolly. He creates one that nearly resembles it, but after finishing it, Wubbzy thinks it's not special enough like the real thing, so he hides it behind a pillow on his couch.

Luckily, Walden remembers that there's a Hammering Holly Dolly in the Grabbity Grab claw machine game at the arcade, so that's where they head to. Wubbzy tries the claw out four times, but three times he gets other plushies and the fourth time nothing at all, despite being super close to getting the doll. As Wubbzy and Walden get more tokens, Moo Moo the Magician tries out the claw machine and wins the Hammering Holly Dolly, which the two realize and quickly have to get back.

They ride on Wubbzy's Tooter Scooter on the road, pursuing after the bus Moo Moo is on and creating havoc. At last, they bump into a fire hydrant which sends them flying into a garbage can. Moo Moo gives the doll to his daughter, who loves it. Wubbzy is disappointed that he couldn't ask for the doll now, and the party is about to start and he doesn't have a gift for Widget. Back at the party at Wubbzy's house, Widget thanks him for the party and gifts, and Wubbzy tries explaining about his. However, she sees the homemade Hammering Holly Dolly behind the pillow and is pleased with it, claiming it is way better than the actual one since it's homemade, and made especially just for her. Wubbzy feels delighted, and Walden proceeds to show Widget his gift: a homemade model of her workshop fit for the doll, except it collapses.

Trivia[]

  • Moral: The best kind of gifts are homemade.
  • When Wubbzy grabs the wrong prizes on the Grabby-Grab game, the Pac-Man death sound effect is heard four times. When Moo Moo wins the Hammering Holly-Dolly, part of the jingle that plays at the start of the Pac-Man game is heard.
  • This episode along with its sister episode had never aired on the Nick Jr. block on Nickelodeon. Besides the final five episodes of season 2 which premiered on the Nick Jr. channel, the only other episode to not air on the block was Watch the Birdie/Wubbzy Tells a Whopper.

Goofs/Errors[]

  • On Noggin/Nick Jr. airings of this episode along with its sister episode, the yellow colors looked a bit pale (noticeably Wubbzy himself being pale), mainly due to compression issues, this will later happen again in Watch the Birdie/Wubbzy Tells a Whopper, The Snow Shoo Shoo/Pirate Treasure, and The Grass is Always Plaider/Everything's Coming Up Wubbzy.
    • However on DVD prints and widescreen prints of this episode, the colors have been fixed.
  • As of September 28, 2009, TV guides featured on cable systems such as DirecTV read the title as "A Dash For a Dolly".
  • In the title card's credits, Suzanne Collins is misspelled as Susanne Collins.
  • When Wubbzy puts overalls on the homemade doll, he calls them a "dress", even though overalls do not resemble dresses.
  • Widget rejected the real Hammering Holly-Dolly for Wubbzy's homemade doll but she has a real Hammering Holly-Dolly in Tea for Three.
  • After Wubbzy finishes making the doll, the hammer tilts downward, but in the next shot, the hammer is right side up again.
